What is practiced in Kids Learning Studio Tutor session?

Tutoring for early childhood learners (ages 3-7) with focus on developing the early phases of reading and writing, and exploring early math concepts. Tutor sessions are customized to each child's developmental stage, and activities have themes built on what the child is interested on in their life at that time.  Sessions have writing and mark making activities, educational games, read-alouds, and always an ongoing conversations building vocabulary and helping to make connections.

Tutoring sessions also work towards the children's social and emotional development.  Young learners need support while they are making meaning of the world.  Session help them gain confidence in early literacy, math and science.  Those factors help children achieve school readiness.  School readiness has been proven to help construct strong language and literacy skills which supports growth in cognitive and social emotional development, and that is related to later school success (Mariano et al, 2019; Better Kid Care Penn State Extension).

About Me.

I have a Master's in Public Health, and in 2022 received a Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education.

I believe my professional work experience in public health contributes to being a caring and compassionate early childhood tutor.  In the past three years I have worked full-time in early childhood educational research, and completed my second Master’s degree, all with COVID-19 occurring right as I started my school program.  I believe it has given me the ability to connect with parents and students better, as I'm aware of how destabilizing the pandemic was for families.  Being a parent myself, I have juggled important work, school and personal priorities and feel it has made me more confident, as well as more committed to what I really enjoy doing, directly working with children, and helping them gain confidence in writing, reading and math.

In my student teaching experience, I worked alongside a wonderful teacher in a Pre-K classroom in the West Village.  I learned the importance of patience, creativity and organization are just as important as teaching phonics and phonemic awareness, and early math concepts.  I believe in teaching while building confidence, and I encourage all students by using a growth mindset to all the key areas of learning.  I believe that if a student is struggling to learn a concept, by sticking with it with patience and practice they can grow overtime, and I emphasize that learning can take time.
